Adoption Information

Adoption Process

In an effort to keep everyone safe through the COVID-19 Pandemic, we handle adoptions by appointment only.

We hope you meet your four-legged love at SPCA Florida! Our goal is to help you find the companion that best suits your household. We have wonderful cats and dogs available, longing to go home with you.

Adoption Center Hours:

Monday through Friday 11 am to 6 pm
Saturday and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm

What to Consider Before Adoption

  • Pets require a significant time commitment.

  • A pet’s life span can be from 5-20 years. Some are better with children than others. Please consider your future plans before bringing a furry companion home.

  • Animals require a financial commitment. Food, treats, toys, veterinary check-ups, and preventative medications can add up.

  • Post-adopt, clients are guided to keep their pets quarantined for 14 days

Viewing Pets Online

Browse our available cats and dogs on the website, and when you find someone that seems right for you, click here to make an appointment to visit, or call our adoption center at 863-577-4615. We are a first-come first-serve facility. If you are interested in a specific animal, we cannot guarantee that it will still be available at the time of your appointment.

We are scheduling separate appointments for cats / small dogs / big dogs. Dog visits are limited to three dogs per appointment.

Adoptable Cat & Dogs

Adoption Process

When you arrive at the Adoption Center, we encourage you and your family to spend time with each pet you are interested in to see which is the best fit. Our trained staff and volunteers are happy to answer questions about the animals and provide you with whatever background information we have regarding that pet.

Please keep in mind we do not always know all of the adoptable animals’ history or backgrounds depending on how they arrived at SPCA Florida.

Some dogs are picky about getting new canine friends, and if you already have a dog we may ask you to bring them in for a meet-and-greet to make sure they'll get along. In those cases the dog needs to be up-to-date on their rabies and DHPP vaccines.

When you find a pet you would like to adopt, the next step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which will be reviewed by one of our trained counselors. The counselors will answer any questions you may have. If the pet is already sterilized he or she can go home the same day, otherwise the surgery is normally scheduled the next day and the pet can go home the day after surgery.

Please note adopters must be 18 years or older and present a valid photo ID, and no adoptions are processed 30 minutes prior to closing.
