SPCA Florida’s Working Cat Program

On occasion, SPCA Florida receives cats who prefer the working lifestyle to being in a home environment. Our goal is always to provide our cats with a home that best suits their needs. We launched Moonlight Mousers to give cats who cannot be adopted as traditional pets the ability to live a happy, healthy life doing what they love. This non-traditional approach allows these cats to receive the shelter, food, water and care they need while offering their kindhearted adopters the service of expert rodent control.

Families with barns, outbuildings, sheds, or garages, and businesses with warehouses who would like a cat to help with pest control and/or to keep other animals’ company are the ideal adopters for our

Midnight Mousers.

What We Provide

  • A New Cat for your barn, outbuilding, stable, garage, shed, warehouse or other structure who is spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated.

  • Free Rodent Control. Our Moonlight Mousers are ready to work and their pheromones that keep pesky critters at bay.

  • Assistance and Advice. We’ll provide all the information you need to successfully acclimate and release your new cat into their new role.

What Adopters Provide

  • A Second Chance for a homeless cat who is not an adoption candidate as an indoor-only cat.

  • Daily Food and Water. The adopter provides two meals a day to help keep them healthy. and their strength up for their midnight mousing.

  • A Safe Place to Call “Home”. A covered, enclosed area where they can stay safe and warm when they need to get out of the elements.

  • Acclimation Safety. For the first two to four weeks, your working cat will need a small, safe place to acclimate to the new environment and learn that they are “home”. Click the button below to download acclimation instructions.
