Viewing Pets Online
You can browse our available cats and dogs on our website before visiting. Once you find a pet that interests you, come to our Adoption Center to meet them in person. Because we are first-come, first-served, availability cannot be guaranteed.

Adoption Process
Walk-ins are welcome! Appointments are no longer required for adoptions. Please note that wait times may vary depending on the number of visitors and staff availability.
SPCA Florida operates on a first-come, first-served basis. While you’re welcome to come in looking for a specific animal, we’re unable to hold pets or guarantee availability upon arrival.
Our goal is to help you find the four-legged companion that best fits your household. We have many wonderful cats and dogs ready to find their forever homes, and we hope you’ll meet your perfect match here.

What to Consider Before Adoption
Bringing a pet home is a big and rewarding decision. Before adopting, please consider the following:
-
Pets require a significant time commitment.
-
A pet’s lifespan can range from 5 to 20 years.
-
Some animals do better with children than others—please think about your current and future household needs.
-
Pet care involves ongoing financial responsibility, including food, toys, veterinary care, and preventative medications.
After adoption, we recommend keeping your new pet quarantined for 14 days to help them adjust and stay healthy.

Meeting Your Potential Pet
When you arrive at the Adoption Center, we encourage you and your family to spend time with the animals you’re interested in to find the best fit. Our trained staff and volunteers are happy to answer questions and share any background information we have.
Please keep in mind that we don’t always know an animal’s full history, depending on how they came to SPCA Florida.
If you already have a dog at home, we may ask you to bring them in for a meet-and-greet, as some dogs are selective about new canine companions. In these cases, your dog must be up to date on rabies and DHPP vaccinations.

Final Steps to Adoption
Once you’ve chosen a pet, you’ll complete an Adoption Application, which will be reviewed by one of our trained adoption counselors. They’ll guide you through the process and answer any remaining questions.
-
If the pet is already spayed or neutered, they may go home the same day.
-
If surgery is still needed, it’s usually scheduled for the next day, and the pet can go home the day after surgery.
Please note:
-
Adopters must be 18 years or older and present a valid photo ID.
Adoptions are not processed within 30 minutes of closing.
