Who are you Running for?
Alfred's story is one that touches the heart. On November 21, 2022, Alfred was brought in by a good samaritan when they found him abandoned in the yard of his home after his owners moved away. Alfred had lacerations around his neck from the thin and tight rope that he had been tied to. Left to fend for himself, he ate dirt to survive. He came to us severely malnourished, ribs protruding, heartworm positive, hookworm positive, autoimmune disorder, muscle atrophy to the point where he could hardly stand and was very depressed. Needless to say - Alfred needed lots of love and medical care.
With the help of our Shelter Veterinarian and his loving foster home, Alfred has made a full recovery and becoming himself again! He's now playing and barking and running like the puppy he should be! He's still recovering in foster care.
Run for Alfred!
Midas is a very special boy. He is 8 years old, almost 9!
Midas needs a Guardian Angel, he has Stage 2 Renal Disease and requires fluids twice weekly. He also needs daily oral medication and special diet food. He is shy at first and will need a little patience while he gets comfortable with you. He loves to be brushed and is quite playful and affectionate once he gets to know you.
Midas has been here since April 20th, 2023. He loves chicken and catnip. He's comfortable with other cats. Midas is very mellow and curious. He likes to talk to you!
By running in the SPCA Florida's Run for their Lives 5K, you're not only running for Midas but all the cats and dogs that have been rescued.
Millie came to us on February 10, 2023, with hookworms and a bacterial infection. She completed treated and is fully recovered!
Millie is a 2-year-old 55-pound Mastiff/Boxer mix who loves to smile and has an adorable underbite! She is highly food motivated, enjoys learning, and would benefit from training classes. She is high-energy and would do best as the only dog in your home. Millie is currently available for adoption!
Meet Bart! Bart is almost 11 years old and came to SPCA Florida as a stray in August 2022. He was thin, had severe dental disease, and tested FIV positive. Our veterinarian had to extract all of Bart's teeth. We nursed him back to health, and now he's a happy, playful boy!
He loves chicken and feather toys. Most of the time, you'll find Bart napping in a doughnut bed, loudly purring away.
Bart is comfortable with other cats, and because he has no teeth, he can't transfer FIV to other cats.
He does need monthly medication to help lessen his drooling and inflammation.
Fun fact: Bart is a polydactyl cat, meaning he has more toes than the average cat!
Bart was recently adopted!
Meet Macho! Macho was transferred from another shelter in Florida and was in desperate need of medical attention. He had endured massive pain and abuse at only 8 weeks old. He had sustained traumatic injury to his body wall, including a hernia and muscle bruising, along with a fractured proximal left femur. The injuries were consistent with a blunt-force trauma injury.
Our Shelter Veterinarian, Dr. Robyn Barton, performed life-saving surgery on Macho, repairing his stomach wall and placing a pin in his left rear leg. Macho recovered in Foster Care and is now available for adoption!
Macho has never had a real home, and because he spent the majority of his early life stages in recovery, Macho will need proper training. He's almost 9 months old and still a puppy! He is great on a leash, housetrained, and a snuggler. Since he's food-motivated, training will be easier. His adoption fee includes a private, 1-on-1 training session.
Run for Macho!
