SPCA Florida offers externship opportunities to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
Students have the opportunity to gain valuable surgical (spay/neuter) skills as we perform a high number of surgeries daily. Our Reva Mclurg Animal Medical Center sees a high volume of patients daily. Visits may range from general wellness exams to sick and debilitated patients needing advanced care. A wide array of surgical procedures are also performed weekly which may include anything from simple mass removals to plating of fractures. Students, under the supervision of staff veterinarians, will gain valuable surgical and diagnostic skills.
Students also have the opportunity to work with our shelter veterinarians while they examine, diagnose, and treat over 4,000 animals per year that are seen in our adoption center. This year we hope to see that number rise to nearly 8,000 lives saved via partnership with Polk County Animal Services.
