The rescue coordinator position is tasked with
1. Getting residents into rescues when needed
2. Transferring in animals from other facilities who require medical care or may not be able to go on the adoption floor at other facilities due to limited space
The program has been in place for several years, but it really began to grow in 2017. SPCA Florida transferred in approximately 100 animals a month from other shelters. SPCA Florida transfers animals into our facility due to heartworm disease, broken bones, pregnancy, nursing, breed of animal, age of animal, and many other health issues. We continue to grow relationships with other facilities out of county to help us place as many animals as possible. We ask for help with these animals as sometimes transfers or rescues may need medical care or behavioral training. These animals benefit from more individualized care than smaller shelters or foster based rescues can provide.
