Meet Athena.

This young, tiny black kitten was recently surrendered to our care after being mauled by her owner’s dog. In a call to our facility, the owner described one of Athena’s eyes as being severely damaged. She was advised to bring Athena in as soon as possible. With little funding for treatment, Athena was surrendered to SPCA Florida where she began the fight for her life.

Athena’s odds did not appear to be in her favor, especially not at first. Upon her arrival, she was covered in fleas, infested with tape worms, severely dehydrated and horribly lethargic. We didn’t think she would make it initially, but the little fighter has been hanging on.

Athena will need surgery to remove her left eye, but getting her stable enough to go under anesthesia has been a challenge.

Every single day, SPCA Florida receives calls to rescue animals that are sick, injured, or in need of a second chance. It takes the support and generosity of all of our followers, volunteers, and community members to enable us to help all the animals in our care. It takes an average of $10,000 – $15,000 every single month to care for sick and injured animals from around the community. That’s up to $180,000 invested annually on ill or injured animals alone.

The Guardian Angel Fund was established to support this cause of taking on special cases like Athena and others before her, such as Blu with the embedded collar, Sheppard with the infected leg, or Griffy the kitten who had two broken legs. It is through your support that these rescues are possible, and Athena needs us now more than ever.

Donations of any amount are cherished and appreciated, as every dollar truly makes a difference in the lives of the animals who make new paw prints on our hearts each day. Will you help us help Athena?
